A woman in her 80s, also a relative of the girl, suffered a suspected dislocated shoulder during the attack and has also been treated in hospital.
A neighbour, who did not wish to be identified, said the elderly victim banged on her front door seeking help.
The neighbour said: “My son answered the door. The woman was wearing a dressing gown and said the little girl had been attacked.
“She asked for help and she was very upset.”
Supt Harvi Khatkar, from West Midlands Police, said: “This is an extremely distressing incident and our sympathies go out to everyone affected.
“We are working to establish exactly what has happened and fully understand the impact that this will have on the community.”
Extra officers from the force will be patrolling the area.
